    More about Seasons
Summer Solstice, The longest day of the year, is typically between June 21- 23.   The average temperature in Southern California, during the summer season, is between 65 -73 degrees (ºF).  People get more light during the summer, before and after work schedules.  In addition, many schools take an extended break during summer that lasts 2-3 months. People are generally outside for longer periods of time. This combination of elements is key to the overall experience.

Summer is a great time for activities.  Museums like The Getty Museum, in West LA, attract large numbers of visitors.  There are 3 popular zoos: The San Diego Zoo, The LA Zoo, and The Santa Ana Zoo.  There is a good chance you will see people flying kites and maneuvering radio controlled (RC) devices if you visit parks, beaches and other open areas.  Sports are also popular in this region.  Californians enjoy traditional sports such as soccer, golf, football, baseball, and basketball.  In addition, California is the capital of extreme sports like skateboarding, surfing, and snowboarding.  Many sports professionals call Southern California "Home".  Eating is a popular past time in Socal.  People have migrated from all parts of the world to Southern California making a wide variety of tasty foods available.  It also seems that every weekend people are barbecueing at small gatherings and large parties.

Movies in general are always popular and there is no exception during summer months.  Most of the big box office hits are debuted in the summer.  There are a high concentration of concert venues in Los Angeles and Orange County.  The Verizon Center in Irvine, The Hollywood bowl, The Greek Theatre, The House Of Blues, and the Universal Amphitheatre host world renowned singers, bands, and performers.

California has claim to many beautiful landscapes, as well as, cool and happening destinations.  Just 2 hours north you can experience Big Bear Mountain. Big Bear gets most of its tourists during the winter season but is a nice place to visit in the summer too.  People come to mountain bike, hike, fish, and to just float on the lake. Huntington Beach, where there were a total of 10,103,404 people in attendance in 2006, is a fun place to visit.  Huntington Beach is dubbed Surf City.  It has the highest concentration of surfers world-wide.  Huntington Beach also attracts kayakers, volley ball players, and other beach enthusiasts.  Huntington Beach is located in the northern part of Orange County.  San Clemente and Dana Point are also favorites.  These beach cities are located in South Orange County.  These beaches meet the hills to create scenery filled with the blues and greens of nature. South county beaches will typically have less people and are a bit more quiet.
