On January 2nd 2005, Sun filled its home page
with a few areas of interest. Sun plans to hold a moderated online
chat session on January 11th 2005, to discuss Jini Technology for Dynamic Networking.
Java also had its usually Java quiz available too. The quiz was
dated December 2004 by Ed Ort. As far as hardware goes, Sun gave
up some of its home page space to the UltraSPARC IV Processor.
This processor uses multithreading technology for enterprise level
needs. This processor is Compatible with existing UltraSPARC
III-based systems. see www.sun.com/ |

On the networking side of things, Cisco was
making statements of their own. Cisco Systems gave a generous
portion of their center home page space to send a public service
announcement. "Help the tsunami survivors recover and
rebuild" with a link to donate. Cisco news also talked about the a
new installation of their IP solution into the headquarters of a major
Brazilian financial institution. This installation included Ciscos
UnityTM unified communications, a Cisco CallManager IP telephony system
and a Cisco interactive voice recording (IVR) system. Cisco used
the lower right side of their page to highlight hardware with an image.
This link took you to a page devoted to data storage products.
Cisco reccomended offloading unused yet occasionally desired data to SAN
or Storage Area Networking devices. see www.cisco.com/ |

Speaking of storage, We cant forget
Seagate. This storage giant had a home page that gave the feeling
that an information portal gives. That up to date feeling.
Their latest news talked about CTO Mark Kryder and VARBusiness.
They quoted the following from Mr. Kryder: "I am honored that
VARBusiness has decided to include me as a top Technology Innovator for
2004," said Kryder. "However, this recognition belongs to the Seagate
R&D team who have enabled Seagate's recent technical accomplishments.
I'm very proud of this team of dedicated people that have helped make
Seagate the number one disc drive manufacturer in the world and who have
recently enabled Seagate to introduce 12 new disc drive products.". One
of Seagates tope stories was about the jump from 1 year warranties to 5
year warranties in desktops. This was also reflected in a rotating
banner that talked about warranties and the storage application model or
SAM. This useful tool helps determine what type of drive you may
need depending on your needs. The meter goes from consumer
electronics and laptops to mission critical needs. The tool
suggested FC, SAS, and SCSI interfaces as you moved closer to mission
critical needs. What about 400gb external solutions, well Seagate
is talking about those too. see www.seagate.com |
