Lions
 
  Lions are animals that are part of the cat family. They are found in the savanna of Africa.
Lions have manes. They also have retractile claws and canine teeth. Lions can live for 8-10 years
in the wild. in captivity, they can live for 25 years.
 
     
  lions travel in groups called prides. Prides can be as large as several miles in diameter.
A pride can have 30 or more lions, lionesses, and juveniles. They consist of few lions, several
females, and the cubs. To mark these territories by roaring, or spraying a strong smelling urine.
 
     
  Lion cubs are very small at birth. They are 1 foot and weigh a pound. lions are blind at birth. Cubs are only blind for only 2 weeks. While cubs are blind, they try as best as possible to stay near the males. Cubs stay in gestation for 108 days or 6-8 months.  
     
  Lionesses do 80-90 percent of the hunting. They stay in the front, while the males stay in the back with the cubs. Usually, they hunt in pairs. when males are alone hunting, the can carry up to 80 pounds of meat on their back. When they eat, they do not share with the females.

  In November to may, the prey is abundant. When hunting bigger animals, they hunt together. They prefer animals such as zebras, wildebeests, impalas, and wild hogs. other animals include hippos, young elephants, antelope, and Cape Buffalo.  
     
  Though, lions spend little time hunting, they spend 20 hours of their days sleeping or lying around. Lions still keep their eyes toward the sky. Vultures could circle them and strike.
