Seagate heads into September
2008 highlighting thier contributions to some of the current concerns
and goals of global communities. Seagate has also been adding lifestyle
to its branding and message. Seagate's Home Page header / banner
presented blue and green patterns moving across the screen. Amongst the
colors and curved lines were subtle, yet key, scrolling phrases.
"New breakthroughs in" and "Great Power Savings". This
"Think Green" message was attached to current
Cheetah, Barracuda, and
Savvio series hard drives. Seagate claims thier
Energy efficient Savvio 15k hard drive doubles performance and almost
cuts your electrical costs in half. How Does Seagate Do This?
By employing Power Reduction Technology dubbed "PowerTrim". These
drives are also smaller than the traditional 3.5" drives that they were
compared to. |

| In early
September 2008,
the Sony website addressed the
needs of Intellectuals, Gamers, and The Living Room. Devoting
almost 1/2 of the home page to thier banner rotation, visitors barely
need to read to understand the messages. Electronic books also known as Reader Digital Books took one of three spots in the banner rotation. Digital Books allow readers to buy and download digital versions of thier favorite books. This device also connects to your PC for drag and drop integration. Digital Books typically come with audio files and images to help create a truly unique experience. These devices can easily hold the contents from hundreds of titles. The Sony PSP (Playstation Portable) has been a hit since it was originally released years ago. Newer versions of the PSP continue to be produced. In 2008, the PSP is 19 percent thinner and 33 percent lighter than the previous version. This PSP also has IEEE802.11b wireless technology (Wi-Fi) built right in. It looks like Sony will satisfy "Gamers on The Go" for another year.
HDTVs have been a sensation in the American living room for a number of
years. Sony has long had a reputation for top-of-the-line display
technology. Sony TVs allow consumers to access and view internet
content through the HDTV. The Bravia W-Series is optimized for
1080 resolution, Blu-Ray movies and Playstation3 graphics.

Like Sony, Sun also
devotes about half of their home page to a rotating banner system.
Sun tends to put an emphasis on a vision of a digital future.
Although Sun manufactures hardware they also play a dominant role in a
non-Windows software-based world.
The first banner displays the X64 Sun Fire Server. Server technology has made leaps and bounds over the last couple of decades. In Japan, The Tokyo Institute of Technology has built one of the fastest super computers. They are using Sun servers with AMD processor technology. |
|||
Sun pumps up a particular flavor of applications
for businesses. Applications are programs that people use to perform
tasks on a computer or network. Cloud applications or CloudWare
take advantage of remote server clusters in an efficient manner and
are also known as Web applications. The solutions include
Solaris Operating System, Sun Hardware, Joyent Cloud Computing
Software, and use of the Amazon Web Services backbone. |
||||
| Virtualization is another hot keyword. Sun allows visitors to download VirtualBox, an application that enables Virtualization. Virtualization makes it possible for one server to maintain numerous environments and configurations. In the past, application and hardware specific scenarios required that multiple servers were needed. Virtual Box will allow someone to have different operating systems on one server, facilitating greater integration and flexibility. It also gives an easy option for upgrading older servers without worry of hardware or other incompatibilities. Virtualization has also become increasingly popular with application developers. | ||||
