| California State University Los Angeles(CSULA) continues to develop and grow. From the schools inception through the Fall of 2006, CSULA continues to a complete venue of activities. The Gala Award Ceremony is an important part of CSULA. An exciting line up of honorees showed up to receive their awards. | ||

| In 1947 an Act of the California legislature was passed to open a new college. In 1964 L.A. State College was officially renamed California State College at Los Angeles (CSCLA) and becam part of the California State College (CSC) system formed in 1960. By 1965 the school football team was ranked number 1 in the nation. Today Cal State University Los Angeles is academically known for Business, Computer Science, and Art. The school has more than 20,000 students and 190,000 alumni. Cal State LA is located in sunny southern California next to the 10 freeway and the 710 freeway. | ||

| The beginning of the school year is a busy time. There have been quite a number of announcements and events in the beginning of 2006 for CSULA. Currently the University is promoting Prop 1D. Prop 1D would complete the Science Complex and build a new Corporation Yard at Cal State L.A. In the spring of 2006 Cal State LA welcomed Dan Bridges, director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Wendy Baker as acting executive director of the Luckman Fine Arts Complex. The 2006 Gala Awards were also held recently. | ||

| This is the 33rd Annual Alumni Awards Gala produced by C.S.U.L.A. The event was held on October 12th, 2006. The Gala Event is the university's opportunity to celebrate the contributions of alumni within their individual professions and communities. This event included a VIP reception, dinner, and the awards presentation. | ||
| The 2006 GALA Awards Ceremony was held at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex. The Luckman ambiance and setting complimented the formal attire worn by the invitees. On the outside, there are palm trees, large columns, and creatively set lighting. The inside provides a 1st class experience due partially to the high ceilings and wide walkways. | ||
| Over the years there have been a variety of exceptional honorees. Some of the past CSULA Alumni that have received this award have included Rosario Marin 1983 (41st Treasurer of the United States), Diane Watson 1967 (California State Senator), Stephen Colley 1970 (Los Angeles District Attorney), William Barnettre 1986 (Los Angeles Fire Chief), Billie Jean King 1997 (Tennis Professional), Donald Sterling 1956 (Owner, Los Angeles Clippers), and Charles H. Chuck Smith 1976 (President & CEO, SBC West). | ||
| This year the honorees included Alan J. Fohrer, John J. Tracy, James Brady, Terrence E. Deal, Elizabeth M. Devine, Maxine M. Morisaki, Paul Jerome White, Donald J. Zuk, and Leo Dardashti. Leo Dardashti has been selected to receive the Distinguished Alumnus Award from the College of Engineering, Computer Science, and Technology at the 33rd Annual California State University Los Angeles Alumni Awards in 2006.. Leo graduated in 1978. Mr. Dardashti moved on to become the President and CEO of Atlantic Inc. Atlantic Inc. manufacturers media storage and lifestyle furniture and has been in business for over 20 years. Atlantic products can be found online and through major retail outlets, such as Best Buy and Walmart. | ||
| Cal State LA continues to develop educational programs that produce assets to our communities. Recognition is provided to exceptional alumni at the annual GALA Awards. | ||
