Beach Volleyball is mostly played
outdoors and during the summer months. Volleyball is a fun sport
that can be enjoyed by groups of people. You might see people
playing volleyball at the beach or in parks. Volleyball can also be an intense
and competitive sport.
This sport requires a lot of
energy and practice to become professional. The Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) runs its season from April through September. |

Before playing, make sure you
have all the proper materials. First, you will need a volleyball
and a volleyball net. You will want to wear shorts or trunks with a tank
top or t-shirt. Sand is essential. Since this sport is typically played outside, you
may also want to wear a hat, visor or headband, and sun glasses.
If it is a hot day you may also want to apply sun block. Most people bring water to cool themselves off
during a game or in case they become dehydrated. After you gather
all of the materials, get some friends together and make teams. Now
that you have all the basic items, you can start to play your game. |

The teams stand on opposite
sides of the net. The floor typically has marked-off
boundaries. The game then begins with a serve. The serve is an important part
of the game. The
server stands behind the back outer boundary. Then, they hit the
ball over the net using their hand or their arm. Serving a ball can
be done using an overhand or underhand hit. The objective of the serve
is to make it over
the net. It is alright if the ball hits the net, but sometimes it
is considered a let, and the serve must be replayed. Once the
ball has been served over the net, the round has begun. Many points can be directly made from the serve. |

The other team must now
hit the ball back over the net. The ball must be returned without
the ball falling to the floor or going out of bounds. You do this by performing
three different hits in this order: passing, setting, and spiking.
Your team may hit the ball three times before the ball is returned to the
opponent's side of the net. A pass is an underhand hit, also known
as a bump, where the ball hits the
middle of your arms. This is a vital
skill needed in volleyball. Setting is the second hit. Place
your hands above your nose and make a diamond shape using your index fingers
and thumbs. When the ball is in the air, position yourself beneath
it. Then push the ball upward with only the tips of your fingers.
This will set the ball for the final
hit. This hit is known as a spike or an attack. This is a
forceful hit that
shoots the ball over the net, to the opponent's side, in a downward
motion. |

There are several
ways to score points. When a team scores a point they get to serve. One
way to score is if the server does not hit the ball over the net and it
lands on their own side. In this case, the opposite team would
get a point. Another way is if your hit does not make it over the
net or if it is out of bounds. This is also an example of when the
opponent's team gets a point. If a player on the opposite team
hits more then once or if the team hits more then three times, you can
score a point. There are also faults during volleyball. These may
occur if the server stands outside the service zone, if you catch or
lift the ball, or if your body touches the net. In an average volleyball game,
you must play until one of the teams gets twenty-five points. |
